Week 2 - Wikis

From what I can see a blog is chronological and is a running account. Sort of like the back and forth exchange of letters between several people or a conversation with side-talking. A blog is good when you need to know the main discussion and any other ideas or mini discussions that might have resulted from it. A blog would be a good record of meetings and any exchanges between staff members, committee members, etc. that lead up to any decisions. A blog can show the thinking processes that resulted in any particular decision. A blog seems to be more in-depth and of closer focus.

In our library, we could use a blog for more long-term projects. This would do well particularly for anything that we might put on hold for several months. When the work resumed, we would have an account of what had gone on previously. Any new person could be brought up-to-date
quickly and thoroughly.

A wiki is like a draft with all changes, additions, deletions and revisions being done by anyone who has the desire to do so. By tracking changes, you can watch its evolution. With several people working on the same item, this would eliminate having to wait for someone to return their written version and make sure everyone else had the correct copy.

In our library we could use a wiki to keep the website and newsletter current. If any changes had to be made, they could be handled right away. Also any incorrect information could be corrected right away without the need to find all the copies of the outdate materials.
